Hotspot: Enfield

Bordering Hertfordshire to the north and Essex to the north east, Enfield is London’s northernmost borough. At 82 square miles, it is also one of the largest. However, characterised by its patchwork collection of small towns, it offers a small-town appeal all too rare in the capital

Five reasons we love Enfield

  • Vast green spaces
  • Fantastic schools
  • Excellent transport links
  • Strong sense of community
  • The River Lee

WHY FIRST TIME BUYERS LOVE ENFIELD

From the rural landscapes of Forty Hill, through Enfield Town, Ponders End, Southgate, Winchmore Hill and Palmers Green, each Enfield neighbourhood offers its own character and appeal, with a strong sense of community as their common thread. For prospective buyers, excellent schools and a 30-minute commute to Liverpool Street seal the deal.

LEISURE

Enfield has more green space than any other London borough, and it shows; Epping Forest sits right on its doorstep, while Forty Hall, Capel Manor and Myddelton Gardens all offer wide-open grounds for walking and relaxing. History runs deep here too – Enfield was historically a collection of small communities around the royal hunting grounds of Enfield Chase, with the old village green later becoming the historic Market Place still enjoyed today. Dugdale Arts Centre is also at the heart of Enfield; a cultural hub where music, theatre, workshops and community events offer social connection for all ages. Other popular local attractions include AirHop Adventure & Trampoline Park and family entertainment centre, Spvr Arcade.

FOOD AND DRINK

Enfield’s dining scene boasts proper local pubs, alongside a diverse selection of restaurants. The Kings Head, known for its dog-friendly, welcoming atmosphere, is a popular spot for Sunday lunch, while Saathi is widely regarded as the best Indian in the area and Mirache Kitchen offers exceptional Turkish cuisine. The Navigation Harvester, set right on the River Lee, is a firm favourite with families. Nightlife is low-key and pub-focused, rather than club-driven, in keeping with the borough’s village feel.

SHOPPING

Whichever corner of the borough you are in, you will find plenty of shops for convenience, and as you explore Enfield you will find different areas offer unique shopping experiences. With the historic market square at its heart, Enfield Town has a proper high street feel with plenty of well-known chain stores. In addition, Palace Exchange, Colosseum Retail Park, Enfield Shopping Plaza and Enfield Commons offer a wide variety of shops, restaurants and cafes. Market Place, in the centre of town, is busy Thursday to Saturday with stalls selling homemade, handmade and specialist goods alongside household staples.
