Chancellor’s £500 Million Boost for Affordable Homes and Stamp Duty Changes for 2025

In today’s budget The Chancellor announced an extra £500 million to pay for 5,000 new affordable social homes. This will increase the affordable housing bill to £3.1 billion a year. The cash injection is urgently needed for housing associations to deliver their contribution to the Government’s ambitious target of 1.5 million new homes over the next four years. In 2025 their long term housing strategy should give more transparency on how they intend to meet their promises and targets.

The Stamp Duty holiday will end on March 31st 2025. For first time buyers the current level where they will not pay Stamp Duty is on homes that cost up to £425,000 but the threshold will return to £300,000 at the end of March.
