croydon

Not only is Croydon London’s biggest growth area, but it is also one of London’s greenest boroughs, with many parks and open spaces

The new £1.4 billion Westfield Shopping Centre, due to open in 2023, will transform Croydon’s current shopping centres into an impressive retail and leisure space, with John Lewis and Waitrose having already secured their space there.

Croydon is served by excellent transport links; from West Croydon and East Croydon train stations, regular trains run to London Victoria and London Bridge (average journey time 18 mins – source TFL). West Croydon also sits on a London Overground line, giving it a direct link to east London. There is also the popular tram line, which runs from Wimbledon to Beckenham.

Many of Croydon’s cafes and bars blend music and art. Matthews Yard is a popular music space with art gallery, flexible work space, a coffee shop and bar, and The Clocktower cafe is full of art, books and music.  At Croydon’s Restaurant Quarter on South End, you’ll find plenty of places to dine out – including the Michelin-starred Albert’s Table. Every June, South End hosts the Croydon Food Festival with more than 70 stalls and 10,000 visitors.

For evenings out, there’s a full programme of events at Fairfield Halls and the Ashcroft Theatre, and there’s also the Warehouse Theatre.  If you prefer film, there’s a Vue cinema in the town centre and the David Lean, a smart arthouse cinema.  Afterwards, head to the Half & Half lounge bar, Bar Txt or The Edge for drinks, music and a lively atmosphere. For the night owls, The Bad Apple serves until late and the Soulful Cellar and The Granaries are both open until 4am.

Two parks are moments from the town centre; Park Hill, and Wandle Park that holds a Green Flag award and features community gardens, play areas, a skate park and the River Wandle. These spaces offer some soothing downtime from the urban bustle. Forming part of the Croydon borough, Coulsdon is rightly known as a leafy suburb.  At the heart of Coulsdon, Grange Park Conservation Area provides green space and a children’s play area, while Coulsdon Common, in the North Downs Natural Area, is part of the large swathe of greenbelt land linking London with the Surrey countryside.

Optivo has a number of homes for sale across Croydon now. These homes are available through shared ownership, meaning you can purchase between a 25% and 75% share of the property, and pay monthly rent for the share that Optivo still owns. If you wish, you can then buy additional shares of the property until you eventually own 100%.
